I admire and love Dutch landscapes, and I am happy to have my paintings exhibited at Bubble Projects. I painted these paintings outdoors in Kansas, the geographical center of the United States. The paintings are abstract with a reverence for nature. Usually I am happy when I paint, but somehow these were difficult to make. I am trying to move closer to the Open Land, and the details of landscape and patterns of light. I live in New York City, where more parks are being built, and people are joining the Green Movement. More trees being planted. This strengthens me. This series started as watercolors and continued to acrylics. Acrylic painting can be both spontaneous and studied. There is a direct application of the paint and a dialogue with each painting. There is whimsy and humor, as well as a stillness in the landscapes without people. I want these paintings to be poetic. Life needs more poetry and trees.
